Is training of employees, supervisors, and managers important and why?

Yes, your supervisors and managers are your eyes and ears in the workplace. They see and hear what you cannot. Having them trained on how to handle situations for you can be very helpful. Our training includes how to spot and recognize abuse and how to handle the situation legally to protect your company. Training employees helps because it also encourages them not to use drugs and alcohol. Most employees are not even aware of the dangerous effects abuse can cause.

Why should we drug test?

The ultimate goal is to keep drugs out of the workplace, but the reason we want to keep drugs out of the workplace is to increase safety and productivity, while decreasing workers comp filings, accident rates, and general mistakes. Another serious problem of not testing is the applicants you attract; other companies are drug testing, if you are not, then by default you are recruiting drug users.

What variety of screenings do you offer?

We do pre-employment, random, for cause, post-accident, and return-to-work screenings for our clients. Each screening has a specific purpose which we will discuss it's applicability to your situation.

Do you have a Medical Review Officer (MRO) and do I need one?

Yes, Safe-T-Works provides local, readily available Medical Review Officers which are required for DOT procedures. We utilize their services on non-DOT positive tests as well to assure you the most professional and accurate interpretation of results.

Can we save money on our worker’s comp?

Yes, many insurance companies will grant a discount if you drug test because drug testing reduces accidents in the workplace.

Random testing is the key to a good program. Pre-employment testing is a great screening method, but it is only the first line of defense against abusers. The facts are that you can clean yourself up for a drug test in a matter of hours, plus there are more internet sites selling ways to beat drug tests than you can even imagine. Pre-employment testing should always come back clean if you have a smart candidate. The key to a successful program that is truly aimed at a drug-free environment consists of pre-employment testing for all new hires and random testing periodically throughout the year to deter post-employment drug use. Random testing gives employees the perception they can be tested at any time. Therefore they have a deterrent not to use.

Is alcohol really a problem in today’s work force?

Yes, statistics show that it is just as big a problem as illegal drugs. Alcohol is widely available and is legal.

Why should we conduct criminal, educational, credit, or DMV checks in the hiring process?

Employers cannot rely on all applicants to be honest on their job applications. Applicants can be dishonest about past jobs, past address, criminal records, and driving history on their resumes and applications.

How do I know if I am required to test under Department of Transportation regulations?

The Department of Transportation is made up of many modes. These modes of the DOT include: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Transportation Administration (FTA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
