Our goal is to provide a comprehensive education and awareness program that corrects errors in thinking and incorporates regular testing, that will promote a decrease in the incidence of 'high-risk’ behaviors related to alcohol and drug use.
Our Approach
An intense and comprehensive ten (10) hour Education & Awareness Program to be offered by a licensed NC Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) over a two-day period at Safe-T-Works office that will also require participation in a six-month Testing Program.
Participants can be offenders who are ordered to complete such a program for offenses such as Simple Possession, Drunk and Disorderly, Public Intoxication, Open Container, Underage Drinking, and other misdemeanor alcohol/drug charges. The program is also offered as a voluntary enrollment option for individuals and families who are proactive in seeking professional help in order to reduce the use of illegal substances.
Program Overview
Day 1 - Education & Awareness
The first day deals with programs such as: Physical Effects of Alcohol and Other Drugs; Denial/ Defense Mechanisms; Difference between Social Use & Abuse; The Progression of Addiction; Factors Indicating Addiction pre-Disposition (Disease Concept).
Day 2 - Cognitive Behavioral Changes
The second day deals with programs such as: Recognizing & Changing Irresponsible Behavior Patterns; Coping Skills for dealing with Negative Thought Patterns; Awareness of Criminal Thinking (Correcting Errors in Thinking); Relapse Warning Signs; Drug Testing Requirements and Procedures; Self-Assessment/What to do/Where to go if you think you need more help
Optional Support Team Education & Training
An optional 2-hour ‘support team’ presentation will be offered to those who wish to attend with a family member, guardian, or friend to gain insight and education in how to provide support for a participant. This presentation will utilize local law enforcement officials to provide education on the recognition of illegal substances and behavior. It will also provide an overview of the entire program (Course Outline & Testing Requirements) with specific information on where to go for additional help.
The program will include handouts, videos, boardwork, and roleplay application. Participants will have the opportunity to process thoughts, feelings and emotions as appropriate. Participants will be given required written assignments to help them process the negative impact their offenses or behaviors are having on their lives and others. It will also help them to learn new behaviors to replace those that have caused them problems in the past.
Program Completion
Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion upon successful discharge of the Educational Program and remaining alcohol and drug free for six-months based on periodic Safe-T-Works Testing.
If the educational program is not completed or a participant tests positive during the six-month testing period, then a recommendation for a formal drug and alcohol assessment will be given and no Certificate of Completion will be awarded.
